INoPSU Secretariat

The INoPSU secretariat consists of a convenor, co-convenor and liaison officer. These posts following consultation with the individual link person for each national surveillance unit make decisions on the direction and development of INoPSU.

I am currently head of department “Paediatric Epidemiology” at the Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich and have recently been appointed to the National Vaccination Advisory Board.

I trained as a paediatrician in Dusseldorf before later concentrating on paediatric epidemiology. I set up the German Paediatric Surveillance Unit in 1994 and took over as convenor of INoPSU in 2004. My main research interests are infections disease epidemiology, vaccine effectiveness, prevention, programme assessment, screening for metabolic disease and obesity in children.

For 2 days a week I work out of the institute of applied research-prevention and health in Leiden . Here we do research in the field of ADHD diagnosis in our region, with heel-prick diagnosis in the Netherlands for hemoglobinopathies, with breastfeeding, and with long term follow up of children born after pain relief of their mothers with morphinomimetics. It is also from here where the Dutch Paediatric Surveillance Unit is sited

I also work 2½ days as a general paediatrician in a general hospital in Rotterdam.

For the finally ½ day adult addiction policlinic and I work in where I see drug addicts with ADHD and addiction.

I currently work at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health as scientific coordinator to the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit. I also hold an honorary research fellowship in the Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Institute of Child Health (London). My current research interests are in the epidemiology of haemolytic uraemic syndrome and Reye syndrome. I am currently working on a project investigating the epidemiology of early onset eating disorders in younger children.

I have acted as coordinator and liaison officer for INoPSU since its inception in1998, acting as the link between the national units.
