Involving the Public

  • Many completed and current BPSU studies have involved support groups and been supported by them (visit the studies section of the website for further information).

  • BPSU applicants are encouraged to approach relevant support or public involvement groups to inform them of the proposed study and, where possible, involve them in it.

  • It is recommended that researchers produce a public information leaflet including information about the condition and the study which can be distributed to relevant groups / organisations (where appropriate).

  • The phase 2 application form requests information about the proposed level and nature of public involvement.

  • You may find the following resources useful when considering public involvement:

Contact a Family- advice, information and support to the parents of all disabled children

INVOLVE - promoting and supporting active public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research.

PALS - Patient Advice and Liaison Service: providing information, advice and support to help patients, families and their carers.
  • Please note that although the BPSU is keen to involve the public, it acknowledges that the level of involvement may vary depending upon the nature of the study.
