General information
The Trinidad and Tobago Paediatric Surveillance Unit (T&TPSU) shall
be established to create communication channels among the health professionals
in Trinidad and Tobago who are involved in child health care delivery
systems and encourage them to cooperate in order to:
-
facilitate public health and scientific research in important childhood
disorders.
-
stimulate the paediatricians to participate in the active surveillance
of important childhood disorders.
-
encourage the paediatricians to investigate these important disorders
to effect practical improvement in prevention, treatment and service
planning.
-
raise the awareness of the health care personnel involved in the
child health care delivery systems about these disorders.
-
respond effectively to public health emergencies.
Considering the significant contributions of active surveillance, realizing
the simplicity and popularity, as well as the other numerous advantages
of this strategy and recognizing the fact that reliable and useful information
on important childhood disorders are very hard to come-by in Trinidad
and Tobago, we believe that establishing such a unit will have a positive
impact on child health care delivery systems.
Moreover it is expected that this Unit shall help graduate students
as well as other investigators to conduct relevant clinical research.
Conditions studied
